Piedmont Pathology enjoys the unique distinction of having on our staff one of the less than ten fellowship-trained GI pathologists in North Carolina.
Piedmont Pathology provides high quality GI pathologic diagnoses, usually within 24 hours of specimen receipt, even with special stains. Reports are available through an encrypted internet link, or by fax, FedEx, or mail.

Kerry D. Payne, MD
Dr. Payne completed his Fellowship in Gastrointestinal and Liver Pathology at GI Pathology in Memphis, TN in 2008. His Residency in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine was completed at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston in 2007.
In 2003 Dr. Payne received his MD from Mercer University School of Medicine in Macon, GA . He is a BS Magna Cum Laude graduate with a double degree in Chemistry and Biology from North Georgia College and State University in Dahlonega, GA.
Dr. Payne is a motorcycle enthusiast. He is also an avid outdoorsman and likes to go hunting and fishing with Dr. Vogel, one of the owners of Piedmont Pathology. Dr. Payne and his wife also enjoy hiking. Their vacations are often spent pursuing their outdoor hobbies in beautiful locations the world over. They live in Hickory.
